A standard practice in the Minnesota – Wisconsin Mixed Martial Arts scene is to have a rival promotion or promoter pay a fighter, fighters, or a team to book a fight or a number of fights on your show and then pay them to no-show. This stunt usually causes $1000’s in lost revenue, pissed off fans, and makes the promoter look bad.
I have seen this trick work a few dozen times. I am writing this page to warn other promoters to be careful who you deal with. Research your fighters, find out who they have fought for and have back ups for your back ups. Make everyone sign contracts – even the amateurs. That way if they do no show without validity, they will be suspended.
Below is a list of fighters that have screwed over Savage Entertainment. Be wary of doing any business with these people.
|Desmond Johnson||Drove down from Winnipeg has been the only person, ever, who couldn’t find the venue since we started promoting. After countless times of giving directions and address he still couldn’t find it. We thought he never even came down, we just couldn’t believe it. After pinning him down and telling him to stay put at a gas station we sent someone out to get him. He was escorted to his hotel. We should’ve walked him in and tucked him night night because he didn’t stay. He drove back to Canada that night. He has been trying to book another fight but we won’t have him and neither should you. Clearly he doesn’t need anymore punches to the head.|
|Richie Davis||Has a habit of booking fights without setting up a training camp. And when fight week comes loses faith in himself and will do and say anything to get out of the fight. He has fought and if he gets steady with a gym we would deal with his coach. But he can never book a solo fight with us again.|
|Fred Isbell||Showed up late to weigh ins only to back out of his fight, couldn’t find a replacement and had many pissed off fans who bought tickets to watch that specific fight.|
|Ken Allen||Team EFX, from Chicago ,trashed a hotel room causing $1,800.00 worth of damages, pushed the night manager, got into it with the police, punched holes in walls, doors, broke lamps, mirrors, were so loud the surrounding rooms demanded their money back.|
|Wayne Bernier||Showed up and backed out|
|Alex Carter||Team EFX, from Chicago ,trashed a hotel room causing $1,800.00 worth of damages, pushed the night manager, got into it with the police, punched holes in walls, doors, broke lamps, mirrors, were so loud the surrounding rooms demanded their money back.|
